Club Mantra
We are in the process of constructing our club track to run both O gauge and OO gauge in the clubroom. Indeed this project is almost completed. We intend to have open days (Sunday mornings but yet to be arranged) to obviate local O gauge modellers from having to travel the 104-mile round trip to Fawley in south Oxfordshire. This will allow members and their guests to run their stock to their hearts’ content in a welcoming environment. Whilst Club members will be able to use this facility as part of their membership; there will be a small session charge for guests in order to cover our overhead. We will provide tea, coffee, and ‘bickys’ as part of the event.
If this is successful; guests may be invited to join our Club which may prove more cost-effective for them depending upon their intended frequency of visit.
Once this construction project is complete then members can use the club track to simply run trains round and round and round and round.
'Proper' train operating will be undertaken on members' layouts which will be constructed on a 'stakeholder' basis and to fine-scale exhibition standard, this so that our Club will always be in a position to take layouts out. A minimum of three members are required to form a stakeholder group and proposals to build layouts are required to be submitted in writing to the Committee detailing the space required, the timescale for building with 'target milestones' and with a target date for completion. This proposal is to be submitted to the Committee in order that the needs of other members can be managed. Flexibility will be applied regarding junior members as railway modelling is not a cheap hobby at the best of times so latitude will be given to accommodate code 100 track in the junior section.
The Club will not fund club layouts as such but will only maintain the aforementioned club track.
